What is a Life Coach?

You have probably seen or heard of the latest self-help trend “experts” in America, called Life Coaches. Some are present on reality television, some offer ads on TV or on the radio, and many claim to offer the ability to help you organize and improve your life. Life Coaches report that they are not therapists, psychological experts or even consultants. But what exactly is a life coach? Could you benefit from one?

Life coaching reports that it has history in the psychodynamic/therapy movement. The actual history however is hard to find, and pinning a year or a date on when life coaching actually started is difficult. The person most often reported as the one who brought life coaching to the forefront is Thomas Leonard. Working as an accountant in the 1980’s, he felt that he saw a need for clients that was not being met by his accounting services alone, including life planning and organization. Thomas created checklists and assessment tools to assist clients in reaching goals. Interestingly enough, Leonards mother is a psychologist. Others point to Stephan Covey and his book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”

Credentials and Training
One of the major pitfalls and complaints about life coaching is that there is no licensing required to call yourself a life coach, compared to mandatory regulations for all mental health workers, doctors, teachers etc. No education is required, nor is any specific training or theory system, nor is there any professional ethics or guidelines.. The worst, and probably the scariest part, is that there is no regulatory committee. In easy terms, that means nobody is watching the behavior of these “coaches”, nor is anyone held to a standard if you feel they have treated you unethically. Monetarily, you have little to no recourse to reclaim any money or payments made to these “coaches”.
There are training programs available, but no program has any specific standard to follow, and many consider these programs to merely be money-making schemes, whereby they offer training and take payment and then give the newly trained life coach a document stating they are “certified”. This certification is not regulated by any private or state or even federal board. The truth of the matter is, anyone can rent a buildling or build a website, even if they are a 15 year old high school student, a child predator, an inmate or a 4th grade drop out. While real life experience does offer knowledge and experience that can be useful to others, it cannot compare to a trained professional using evidence based practices.

Services offered
According to, there are many services offered by life coaches. Some do career coaching in either organizing your resume and assisting in finding a new job, or helping you to enjoy the job you already have. There are financial coaches, executive coaches, relationship coaches, goal coaches, life or personal coaching and a myriad of others. New areas include coaching for mothers and for professionals with mental problems
To find a Life Coach in your area, you do an easy search on the internet for an available coach. Many offer multiple forms of contact, including email, video conferencing and over the phone, as well as in person. Many critics report that one would be better off either talking to a friend, or at least someone in a regulated profession such as a Therapist or Social Worker. The fees are the same if not less to speak to a trained mental health worker, and these professions have a much higher rate of success and evidence based practices. The founder himself had no formal training and offered nothing to his clients but opinions. Many feel that it preys on consumers who are seeking a quick fix; these consumers lose hard earned money and may show short term benefits, but no long term help.
Many people could benefit just as well from reading a self-help books, although supporters say that a life coach is available to you at any time and is less biased than a family member or friend.

Who goes to Life Coaches?
Often the mental health field carries a stigma. Approx 70% of all therapy clients are women, whereas in life coaching the clientele is 60% men. Often those seeking a life coach are professionals, often more affluent. Fees range from $1000 a month to $3000 a month or higher. Some coaches cost $10,000 a month. Some coaches do a weekly 30 minute phone conversation, while others offer 3 sessions spread over 6 months. Email coaching does cost less. In general however, life coach Chicago is least expensive than most other trained mental health providers.

Book a Beach Spa Hotel For Fun in The Sun

The beach offers holiday fun in the sun for the whole family. With the stresses of work and daily life left at home, all you have to worry about is the sand, surf, and get in some good meals. The beach is fun even in more modest accommodations, but when you factor in a luxury hotel, it only gets better. Make it a spa hotel for the best beach holiday in the sun.

Holidays become unforgettable in a beach resort. These properties combine luxurious accommodation, serene spas, and natural wonder to become a surefire destination for your next trip. The component’s beach trip will be the same no matter where you stay, but the amenities offered at a beach resort can not be beaten. Best of all, the classic combination of outdoor fun after-sun treatments and spa is more convenient in a spa hotel, where else can you get everything under one roof?

You can find a beach resort in almost all tourist destinations of beach and some lesser known sites as well. Built beaches are generally aligned with qualifying properties, some of which are mega resorts with several buildings. The gateway beach average, however, is not a huge company. Normally, the property is located in a privileged area by the sea, sometimes a part of the beach will be reserved exclusively for hotel guests. Most beach hotels only occupy a building, the spa is typically in, usually on the ground floor. A restaurant on site is often included as well, and some hotels offer an outdoor tiki bar for beach-going guests to enjoy as well.

Not all beach hotels provide the same level of service. A hotel can offer world class service to guests, but another could only provide basic services. The amount of personal attention that you receive in a hotel really corresponds to how much you are willing to pay. In-priciest and most exclusive hotels, you may be provided with a private beach cabana, and a wait staff may be available to serve you outdoors. Less expensive establishments still provide all the basics with a touch of elegance, but little extras such as beach service bar, can not be provided.

The spa at a beach hotel must provide a full range of treatments, and it will likely include many after sunset services designed for vacationers to the beach. Treatments vary depending on the size of the hotel’s spa, but there must be at least one massage, facial, body treatment and services. Specialized after-sun treatments may include services for hair conditioning and anti-aging facial treatments. It is also common for beach hotels to incorporate the beach theme throughout their spa offerings. For example, you can find a bath treatment that uses natural seawater, or it may be that the spa’s body scrubs use purified sand instead of salt.

If the spa component of your trip is important to you, call ahead to your hotel and make sure the spa facilities are really what you’d expect. The best spas include a fitness area, several private treatment rooms, sauna and steam room, and space for group classes, like yoga. Many beach hotels offer spa all these components, but some are limited in their services. And unfortunately, some companies will go for a spa hotel without much of a spa at all, just being able to provide a pool and a hot tub in his eye online potential of each resort to find out exactly what “area spa. ” implies your spa. If the description provided does not meet your satisfaction, look elsewhere.

After finding a hotel with a spa that meets your needs, go ahead and book. You must book spa treatments at the same time as your accommodation. Spas can sell out during the high season in popular destinations, especially if the hotel has a small treatment room to guest room ratio. If you book early, you will be sure to get the treatments you want, sometimes working with your schedule. Go ahead and book as many services as you think you could use. You can cancel if you change your mind.

The total cost of your trip to a beach resort spa will vary but will likely be high, no matter what you do. A spa trip is inevitably expensive. Spa treatments cost much to begin with, and when they had a posh vacation area hotels, the price only gets bigger. Expect to pay about $ 100 per spa treatment in a spa in an average hotel. Accommodation costs vary, but you’ll probably pay more than $ 150 for each night of your trip, especially if you stay in the water. Add to that food and travel expenses, and you’ve got yourself an expensive flight. But while the cost is high, the end result is well worth it. Sand, sun and spa equals fun!

The Nutrient-Dense Power of Pemmican: A Traditional Survival Food

The term pemmican derives from the Cree word “pimikan,” which means “manufactured grease.” Pemmican is a traditional food that has been used by Indigenous people for centuries as a portable, nutrient-dense food source. It is a mixture of dried meat, fat, and sometimes berries, which is then formed into cakes for easy storage and transport. Pemmican has a long shelf life, making it an ideal food source for long journeys, hunting trips, or survival situations.

Then, it is pulverized into a powder and mixed with melted fat, usually from the same animal. The mixture is then formed into cakes or balls and left to cool and harden. Sometimes, berries such as cranberries or wild blueberries are added to the mixture to provide additional flavor and nutrients. The resulting food is a dense, chewy cake that can be stored for months or even years.

Must-Haves for Landscapers

There are a lot of landscaping tools in hardware stores, gardening shops, and other shops all around the world. The tricky part is to know which landscaping tools are important and useful. So if you want to have a great garden, make sure your garage has some more space for these tools:

Since pruning is essential for some plants, then you would need pruners in your garden tools collection. Pruners help keep your lawn at its best. The type of pruners you need can be determined by the plants that you have. The most popular pruners are the hand held ones, but if you have small branches and large shrubs, you may need those pruners that have longer blades compared to the hand held pruners.

To build a garden, you would need plants. And to have some plants, the shovel comes in handy for you to be able to dig holes. That is why the shovel is deemed to be the most important landscaping tool. Shovels can help you dig holes for large plants or small seeds. The size of the shovel is determined by the size of your garden. It would be great to have a full-size shovel but if you only have a small area then you may only need a hand shovel.

The wheelbarrow is a time saver when it comes to transporting things such as leaves, dirt, rocks and other yard wastes you wish to remove. So if you have a large area, a wheelbarrow will save you from backaches. If you think that it isn’t essential for your garden, then think again. You’ll never know when you’re going to need some transporting of materials.

Instead of leaf blowers which aren’t eco-friendly at all and are rather noisy, use rakes instead. Aside from gathering grass clippings, pine needles, dead leaves and other lawn debris, rakes can also be used to mulch on large beds and to spread straw.

Watering Can

Unless your garden hoses are long enough to reach every area of the garden, then you won’t have to have a watering can. But that isn’t enough reason not to actually have one in your garage. There may come a time that your garden hoses get damaged. Watering cans are also best for newly planted seeds and container plants, as they gently water plants and not wash away the seeds.

When you already have the five important tools stated, and after much experience in the garden, you would know what to add in your garden tools collection. Just make sure you have enough space in your garage.

If you’re preparing to redo your bath and working with a tight budget, there are a few affordable solutions that can change an older, dreary bathroom into a modernistic, updated one.

1) begin with the bathtub area. The bathing area is the focal point of your bath. It’s what can make your bathroom look great or terrible. If the bath area is stained and old it stands out. There is an assortment of new bathtub shapes and styles to select from if you’re debating replacement. There are recessed tubs, drop in tubs, corner tubs, whirlpool tubs, and freestanding tub styles to choose from.

If you’ve got an older iron bathtub and do not want to get rid of it, you could have it refinish it and make it look brand new. In addition to, the bath area, if there’s out-of-date tiling installed over the bathtub, or fiberglass paneling, get rid of it and install new and modern-day ceramic tile. There a ton of ceramic or stone tile patterns and styles to choose from. Many tiles are cheap and can be put in by a yourself, it’s a fairly easy job even if you’ve never done it before.

2) look at the room’s sink area. If your vanity is stained, old, or damaged you will be able to find on at a home depot or other improvement store for pretty cheap. If your sink area is in good condition, you could merely make it look better by replacing the mirror and maybe the sink. Bathroom vanity sinks and tops easy to install on your own.

3) You may want to replace your toilet if it is getting older, if you’re on a tight budget however, you can always just replace the seat and put a seat cover and tank cover on to hide it. If you decide to replace it I would recommend against the low-flow toilets, it will save on water a little, but they have a weak flush.

4) If your home has radiant heat, you might want to replace the heating element. These can rust over time and can be an eyesore. You could replace it on your own, but you do need to have some plumbing skills. You could hire a plumber for pretty cheap as it shouldn’t take more than an hour for them to install your new radiator.

5) Install new lighting fixtures. I would recommend installing two different sets of lights; bright lights, and low lights for night time. Consider installing an over head light on the ceiling as well as vanity lights over the sink.

6) Install new flooring, older flooring can be pretty unsightly, consider installing vinyl or ceramic tile to cut down on costs, if you have carpeting get rid of it. Carpeting soaks up the moisture from the air and can be a breeding ground for bacteria and molds. Tiling is a pretty easy and straightforward task. If you are thinking of removing the toilet and/or vanity while bathroom remodeling, make sure you put your flooring in before replacing them it will save you the trouble of having to cut the tile or vinyl to fit around them and it will look more seamless.

7) Replace any tiling on your walls with either new tile or wallpaper.

8) Replace any trimmings or baseboards, these also get a lot of moisture and can become discolored and breed bacteria and molds. Most of these jobs can be done by yourself and don’t require too much skill. It will save you a lot more money than if you hired someone else to do the work. Get your home remodeling ideas together and make a game plan to transform your bathroom into a modern and clean space.

I had a great idea. Actually, great is an understatement. This was an epiphany!
It was the one defining moment every housewife should have – how to turn your husband into a handyman!

Not only did my husband agree to be my handyman, he did it with a smile on his face. No groaning, complaining, or eye-rolling. In fact, he seemed to enjoy the thought of becoming my personal handyman.

I don’t know about you ladies, but getting odd jobs done around my house has been an ongoing battle for nearly fifteen years. All of a sudden, because of one brilliant idea, my husband is Mr. Fixit. I like my husband’s new new handyman mentality. He likes his new payment plan.

Wait a minute, you’re thinking. ‘Did you say payment plan?’ Yes, I did. I figured if I treated this as a business transaction, my husband would, too. So, I wrote a contract. We both signed it. Now, my husband is my official handyman, and I am under contract to pay for his services.

Not only will I tell you how I came up with the terms of our contract, I’ll help you write a contract of your own. This will include descriptions of odd jobs, payment for each job, and a time frame for the job to be completed. It also includes a disclaimer. But I’ll get into all that in a little bit. Right now, I’d like you to indulge me by letting me tell you how this brilliant idea came to be….

I was cleaning the icebox. Not just tossing out leftovers, but really cleaning it. All the contents had been removed. So had all the shelves, except for one. (I told you I was really cleaning it!) So, I grabbed hold of the last shelf and pulled it out. A metal bar slid out from underneath it and slid across the kitchen floor. A plastic do-hickey fell on my foot.

Holding that last shelf, I looked around my kitchen. ‘I don’t have time to fix this,’ I thought. The sink was full of dishes, the compost bucket was overflowing, and the kitchen table was full of condiments of every shape and size. Hmmm….. I don’t remember buying all those……

Anyway, I am not a handyman- uh- woman, by any means. I’m doing good to know the difference between a hammer and a nail. (The nail is the pointy one, right?) So I did what any stressed out, stay-at-home, repair challenged wife with PMS would do…. I texted my husband.

The conversation went something like this:
Wife (that’s me): I need help. I broke the icebox shelf. Can you fix it when you get home, please?

Husband: How can you break an icebox? Yes, I’ll fix it when I get home.

Wife (me, again): I was cleaning it. I guess the dirt was holding it together. By the way, I think there are pieces missing. Thanks. I love you, my sexy handyman.

I thought that would be the end of the conversation. But, then, I received another text. ‘Ah, here comes the excuse,’ I thought to myself. Opening and reading it, I realized how wrong I was!

Husband: The icebox isn’t the only thing I’ll fix when I get home, my horny little housewife. Your sexy handyman loves you, too.

Wife (still me): It’s a date!

Now, I won’t write the rest of the conversation for all of the world to see. Obviously, it just got better. We texted the rest of the day. That got me thinking ( which is kind of dangerous, sometimes) about how I could use this to get other things done. This could be mutually beneficial. I could get odd jobs done and he could get extra favors.

Remodeling Our Bathroom for $3,000

When we moved into our current home, the home of which I grew up in, the bathroom was old, dated and smelled bad. I had lived in the house until I was 18 with my grandparents who built the house in 1965. We bought the house in 2010 after my grandma passed away. We thought it would be an easy remodel, just a tub, toilet and sink. Other than the dated look we had no idea the bathroom was in such bad shape.

Since we were unable to renovate before we moved in we lived with it for almost a year. The only thing I did do was pull up the nasty carpet. Living with three males, my husband and two sons, the carpet absolutely had to go. About 2 weeks before the renovation started I put some markers in the bathroom and we had fun writing messages and drawing pictures on the wall.

When the renovation actually began we gutted the entire room. The old blue bathtub, toilet, and sinks were among the first to go along with the wall that separated the shower from the toilet. The more we dismantled, the more we discovered. Mold behind the shower walls and a rotten floor around the toilet. When the demolition was finally done the only thing that was left were the wall studs and floor joists.

We decided to move the bathroom around which required us to also move the plumbing and some electrical. This was mapped out before the new subfloor was put in. After the flooring the rough plumbing and electrical were completed. Next was the drywall. The drywall was tricky since we were working with full sized pieces in an 8×8 room. The cost of the drywall and subfloor was $150. Luckily new plumbing and electrical was only about $50 since we didn’t have to do much and was able to reuse a lot.

Once that was done the rest fell together piece by piece. The flooring is a pattern done with 12×12 and 6×6 ceramic tile. A bargain at $325 for the tile, thin set and grout. Our vanity is a beautiful rich color with a black granite top and under mount sink. Not too expensive at $700 but definitely a splurge since we were working within a budget. The faucets we chose were Moen in a brushed nickel finish $300 for both the tub and sink. We were lucky and found the tub and surround on clearance for $500. Lighting was $250 for a vanity light and a fan/ceiling light combo.

The one thing we should have done but did not was a heated floor. It never crossed our minds since the room is small. However, now we wish we would have done it. Our entire project was do-it-yourself. From the beginning to end we worked as a team and were able to save thousands of dollars doing it ourselves.

BATHROOMS – Bathroom surfaces typically don’t face the same abuse as those in the kitchen (think hot frying pans, sharp carving knives and spilled Bordeaux), the decisions most buyers wrestle with are usually more about style and cost than Herculean strength. Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling as a Career

In April 2006, I retired from nearly twenty one satisfying and fulfilling years as a nationally certified Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. I was also licensed in the state of New Jersey to practice Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. Over time as the profession of vocational rehabilitation emerged and morphed into different directions and specialties, I too, grew with the profession. Vocational rehabilitation counseling is a profession that is not that familiar to many. Whenever I was questioned about my occupation, the inquirer would often confuse nursing and vocational rehabilitation counseling. i suppose the word rehabilitation in my job title conjured up thoughts of clinics and hospitals.

So, you ask, what is a vocational rehabilitation counselor? Vocational rehabilitation counselors work with individuals who have a physical, mental, developmental or psychiatric disability. We work in varied settings including hospitals, clinics, outpatient centers, government and insurance offices, private rehabilitation centers and more recently in schools. Vocational rehabilitation counselors are often mistaken to be social workers. These two professions, while having some overlap are two distinct professions governed by accrediting bodies and having different education requirements. Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors or Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists as we are sometimes called, work as part of an interdisciplinary team to assess the current functioning and future prognosis of individuals returning to employment or to determine if retraining or a career change is needed because of an injury or physical impairment. Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors (specialists) can specialize in a particular disability group. In my career, I worked with psychiatrically disabled patients for a number of years and ended my career as a Vocationally Rehabilitation Counselor for chemically dependent patients in an outpatient hospital center in a borough of New York City. Other specialty areas include but are not limited to visual impairments, orthopedic impairments, developmental disabilities, special education, learning disabilities and hearing impairments.

Education Required
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors must complete an undergraduate degree program, preferably in behavioral sciences, humanities, or liberal arts. A solid foundation and knowledge of human behavior and principles is vital because of the individualized approach that is needed when working with individuals. Upon completion of an undergraduate degree, you can then apply to a graduate school of Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling for admission to a CORE(Commission on Rehabilitation Education) program for a Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.. It is imperative that you attend a school that is CORE accredited or you will discover that your degree is not acceptable to the standard of the governing body, the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and employment will be difficult. Most graduate programs are two years in length and upon completion of the graduate degree, you are eligible to sit for the certification examination that is held in October and April each year. National certification, while not always required by an employer, is increasingly being sought by employers when hiring Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors (specialists). Continuing education is necessary to maintain the 100 credits you need to maintain certification. Credits can be obtained by attending approved seminars, conferences or by taking approved home study courses. A fee is assessed to take the exam as part of keeping current with changes and policies in the field of vocational rehabilitation counseling. Once certified, you are allowed to use the designation CRC (certified rehabilitation counselor) after your title. Being certified often equates being offered a higher salary. Doctoral programs are offered by accredited institutions for those interested in pursuing a PhD. degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.

Skills Required
When working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor it is necessary that one be a good listener, possess good problem solving skills, have the ability to make evaluations based upon medical, educational, and family histories in order to properly assess the individual’s needs A treatment plan is then formulated with the individual’s input to assist the disabled individual to integrate his current abilities with realistic vocational and education options. Excellent interpersonal skills are needed because of the frequent and ongoing contact you will have with other health practitioners including physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and other medical personnel. Verbal and communication skills are part of the skill sets needed to write the many progress reports and evaluations and other written correspondence. Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling spans many medical specialties and depending upon your specialty you will develop specific skills and knowledge. Patience and compassion are two very important attributes to possess when dealing with individuals with disabilities in the profession of Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.

Employment Possibilities
Quite candidly, you will not become wealthy working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (specialist) but I found the salary is respectable and differs depending upon your geographic location. However, for me, the gratification, satisfaction and fulfillment I received over the years in helping individuals find their niche and offer hope to those who felt they had nothing to gain or offer, more than made up for any monetary deficit. I am not stating that the salary is woefully inadequate but that it does not equal the type salaries received by those employed in the corporate world. In my life, I made the decision that the corporate world was not my choice and know that I was in the field where I positively impacted the world of others. My financial needs were met and in the New York City metropolitan my $47,000 plus annual salary was competitive and comparable with salaries offered by other hospitals and clinical settings. I had a decent benefits package and a 403b plan.

If you are a high school student, a college student who has not yet decided upon a major or an older adult considering a career change, then a career in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling may suit you. If you desire to help individuals transition from a condition of despair to hope as you work with them to develop realistic employment or educational goals, then I unequivocally recommend that you further explore vocational rehabilitation counseling as a career choice. Taking a course in medical transcription and medical disabilities further enhanced my understanding of physical and mental disabilities and helped me to be of better service to my clients and patients. I discovered that my knowledge of medical disabilities linked with my experience in education and mental health provided me the opportunity to have a fulfilling career in vocational rehabilitation counseling. In working in this profession, one learns that not everyone will be a success or follow the agreed upon recommendations, a lesson I learned after several years in my profession. Nevertheless, I have no regrets that I chose vocational rehabilitation counseling as my life’s work. Indeed, I am proud to have worked in the field and now that I am retired, I look forward to still using my knowledge and skills if only in an informal way. Touching lives as evidenced by the many kind letters, comments and words of appreciation I have received
over the years has more than made up for any bad experiences. Perhaps you too will find Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling to be the answer to the question :What do I want to be when I grow up?

Acupuncture: a Proven Success

For many in the United States, complaints such as fatigue, depression, and chronic pain have unfortunately become a normal part of life. Western medicine in general has really failed in the attempt to quell these common afflictions. A method which has been in use for thousands of years outside the world of Western medicine is now finally being recognized in the United States, and its results are spectacular.

Acupuncture is a part of Traditional Oriental Medicine which involves the insertion of very thin needles at specific points in the human body. Acupuncture is based on the Eastern idea of Qi (chee). Qi is based on the flow and patterns of energy throughout the body. Blockages in this energy flow are the root of nearly every problem within the human body. These needles reopen or redirect the energy flows in the body relieving the receiver of whatever afflictions he or she has intended the healer to correct.

As acupuncture gets more and more popular in the United States, more and more Americans try this method of healing. It is estimated that 15 million Americans have tried acupuncture, and that five million undergo the treatment on a yearly basis. Many states now have acupuncture organizations, regulations, and codes. There are now more than 50 accredited acupuncture schools in the United States.

The World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health have both recognized acupuncture as an effective proven treatment.

In the United States, acupuncture is practiced differently from the way it is practiced in China. Western physicians practice acupuncture, and this is termed “Medical Acupuncture.” There are also many different styles of acupuncture, and the most commonly used and taught in American schools is Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture.

Proof of the effectiveness of acupuncture can be found in the studies which show that acupuncture generates biological responses in humans and animals. It is well-established that acupuncture creates the release of chemicals and hormones. One of these chemicals, endorphins, are responsible for pain relief, digestive regularity, and emotional well-being.

Because of the narrow-minded nature of Western medicine, Western doctors are finding it really hard to reconcile within standard western medical models how exactly this treatment works. There is a lot which is still being learned about this process in the Western World. Acupuncture is something which has been effective long before Western medicine was effective and even widely established. There is much to be learned from the much older cultures of the East.

How to Make a Cleaning Service More Affordable?

All of us are busier than ever these days, and some weeks it is hard to find time to get all the cleaning chores done that we would like. Have you had thoughts of hiring a cleaning service, but have thought you wouldn’t be able to fit it into your budget? Think again, you might be able to afford it after all. The best way to save on the cost of having a cleaning service is to be specific about the things you want them to do. Most cleaning services are flexible about what jobs they do at specific locations.

Take some time and think about your cleaning needs. Start by making a list of the jobs that you really hate to do around the house. These will be the jobs that you would really feel are worth paying to have done. And this is the start of the list for what the cleaning service will be asked to do. Add that bathroom that you put off doing all the time on the top of the list for the service to do. But, if you really don’t cook very often and don’t mind keeping the kitchen cleaned up regularly, then keep that for yourself to do.

Fine tune your needs and be specific with your service about what you want done and what you don’t want done. There is no need paying them to cleaning the utility room if that is not important to you. Why have them clean the spare bedroom when it isn’t going to be used anytime soon? If you seldom cook, that may be a good room to pick and choose what you’d like the service do. You might be pleased just to have the sink cleaned and the floor washed! Or maybe clean the microwave inside and out, the coffee maker, and the floor.

This idea may not seem so easy for everyone. Those of you that feel like you hate every part of cleaning will have the worst time with it. But if you can’t afford to have it all done for you, then compromise. You are still going to have to do some of it yourself, but just keep reminding yourself how much you appreciate having some of those really hated jobs done for you. Maybe someday your budget will allow for having the whole house cleaned, but for now, some help is better than none at all. Happy cleaning.
